Harford named U's number two

Colchester United manager Geraint Williams has named former Rotherham United boss Mick Harford as his number two at Layer Road. The 47-year-old, who was a team-mate of Williams at Derby County in the late 1980s, has been out of football after being sacked from his job at Millmoor last December. However, he has extensive experience as a number two having had stints at Swindon Town, Luton and Nottingham Forest, where he was also caretaker boss when Joe Kinnear resigned in December 2004. The appointment brings to an end Williams' search for an assistant after he was promoted from that role to the managerial hot seat when Phil Parkinson quit to take over at Hull City at the end of last season.
