Duguid eased back gently

Colchester United manager Phil Parkinson is pleased to see Karl Duguid arrive at the club for pre-season training after his long-term injury problems.

The 27-year-old has spent his entire career at Layer Road and made 270 League appearances for the club but has been sidelined since March 2004 with injury.

He sustained knee ligament damage against Stockport County but hopes to return to first-team action shortly.

Parkinson is wary of rushing the midfielder back too quickly though, telling the club's official website: "We'll nurse Karl through the first few weeks because of the time he's been out.

"We're really pleased he's got back to this stage after the rough time he's had and hope we can prevent him getting injured again.

"But the signs are looking very good that we can get Karl back on the pitch in a U's shirt very soon."
