Colchester United new boy Jermaine Brown was delighted to mark his U's debut with the winning goal in the 3-2 LDV Vans Trophy win over Wycombe Wanderers.

The 20-year-old former Arsenal trainee netted in the final minute of extra-time, having only just replaced Bobby Bowry as a late substitute.

Afterwards, he told the Evening Gazette: "It was a dream start for me.

"I had already told our coach Brian Owen that I had goals in my locker and my team-mate Wayne Andrews predicted that I was going to score if I got on.

"When Sam Stockley put over the cross I made up my mind to hit the ball as hard as I could, and I was more than delighted to see it fly into the roof of the net. I couldn't have asked for anything better.

"Now I want to go on and win myself a new contract at the end of the season."
