Ward targets Gillespie stay

Colchester manager John Ward is poised to open contract talks with striker Steven Gillespie. The Us' £400,000 record signing will be out of contract at the end of the season but Ward wants to keep him at the Community Stadium. Gillespie looks to have finally put the injury problems which have blighted his three seasons in Essex behind him and has hit seven goals in his last 14 appearances. "I would like to keep Steven at the club. If he can stay fit for an entire season then I'm absolutely certain there's 20-plus goals in him," said Ward. "I'll speak to him over the next two weeks or so about keeping him here."
