Ward takes rough with smooth

Colchester manager John Ward was left unimpressed by his side's display after they snatched a 3-2 home win over Hartlepool. Referee Oliver Langford adjudged Peter Hartley to have handled in the penalty area and Ian Henderson stepped up to despatch a 92nd-minute winner for Colchester. Ward said: "The result was probably better than the performance, but we play 46 games over the course of a season and we're not always going to be perfect. "It's about digging things out and working things through and we've done that with a lot of heart, endeavour and effort. "Sometimes it was a little bit frustrating, but it's a 90-minute game of football. I think there was a little bit of a discussion about who was going to take the penalty." Ward added: "Over a season of 46 games, you take what comes your way. We can't judge whether it was in the box or not, the referee was in the best place to judge that. It came our way with five minutes to go and we've taken it."
