Ward: Play-off dream is over

Colchester boss John Ward could not hide his frustration and admitted his side's play-off hopes are fading fast following the 2-1 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday. Striker Neil Mellor marked his recall to the team with both goals as Wednesday picked up their first three points at Hillsborough this year. Steven Gillespie struck late on for Colchester, but Wednesday held on to leave Ward frustrated. He said: "I'm frustrated for my team that we haven't come away with something. "We have come up against a very aggressive Sheffield Wednesday, albeit fairly I might add, who were wound-up and ready for the battle. "I think the play-offs are now probably out of our reach with six games to go, but what annoys me is that we have enough quality to improve and to take this team on further. I'm like everyone else, I want it to happen a bit quicker than what we are going to get at the moment."
