Ward keen on Williams

Colchester manager John Ward stressed his desire to keep hold of Tommy Williams after his first goal since April 2004 helped secure a 2-1 victory which ended Bournemouth`s unbeaten record at Dean Court. The journeyman defender, who is on loan from Bristol City, broke the deadlock with a 30-yard free-kick to register only the fifth goal of his career. Ian Henderson added a second for United before Steve Fletcher set up a nervy finale with a diving header which proved mere consolation. Ward said: "It was a fantastic strike. I'm not sure if he's ever done it before or will ever do it again. I've been really pleased with Tommy - he's been a model pro since he stepped into the breach here. He's a good team player both on and off the pitch. "His loan period ends after Tuesday's game. We'd like to keep him, but it's out of my hands as Bristol City may want him back." Regarding the result, Ward added: "It was a great all-round performance. The work rate was and team ethic were terrific."
