Ward hits out at defensive duties

Colchester boss John Ward was left to rue a poor defensive display from his side as they stretched their winless run away from home to six matches with a 4-2 defeat at Yeovil. Craig Alcock and loan signing Andrew Tutte handed the Glovers a two-goal lead at Huish Park. Ashley Vincent pulled a goal back for the visiting Us but, within the space of just 60 seconds, Dean Bowditch restored Yeovil`s two-goal margin from close range. David Mooney then made it 3-2 but, once again, Yeovil replied immediately, Tutte setting up Andy Welsh to make it five unbeaten for Yeovil. Ward said: "I was disappointed all the way through the game with our defending. When you look back over the season we have been a soft touch. "Defending on our travels has often been top six and our goalscoring has been bottom six. Here, for us to get two goals away from home you expect to come away with something, but we have defended very poorly throughout this game. "We had one two chances as well as the two goals, but when we have fought ourselves back into the game on two occasions we have not only shot ourselves in the foot but also in the head by giving the game away immediately. That knocks everybody back and it gives the home team a lift. We have given away poor free-kicks that has enabled them to get the ball into the box and we haven't defended well. That's my main complaint."
