Ward eyes new frontman

Colchester boss John Ward is looking to bring a striker to the club on loan. The Us are currently short of striking options with David Mooney set to serve a three-match suspension for his sending off against Southampton on Saturday and Matthias Vilhjalmsson having returned to his native Iceland. That leaves Kayode Odejayi and the injury-prone Steven Gillespie as the only recognised frontmen at the club. Ward told the East Anglian Daily Times: "I was turned down on a couple of requests for a loan forward late last week and I'll keep trying to do that if I can. "Robbie Cowling ( the club's chairman) is quite happy that if we can improve the group he'll back me, but if I can't make it better we won't get players for the sake of it. "We've still got people like Gillespie, Ashley Vincent and Andy Bond so we're not too bad."
