Colchester United manager John Ward admitted his side were well beaten by Huddersfield as the only remaining unbeaten record in League One came to an end.
Goals from Lee Novak, Jordan Rhodes and Anthony Pilkington gave the Terriers a comfortable 3-0 win which was only soured when substitute Lee Croft was dismissed late on for two bookings.
Ward said: "It was a disappointing way for our unbeaten run to come to an end, particularly at home.
"We've been beaten by the better side and we have to put our hands up to that.
"Huddersfield played very, very well - the best team won and we looked a little tired. Credit to the opposition - we all tend to look at ourselves but the best team has won the game.
"They are the best team we've played against all season."
