Wanderers down Us

Wycombe scored two late goals to claim a 2-0 win against Colchester and book their place in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy southern area quarter final. The Us set much of the early pace as Ian Henderson went close on numerous occasions in the first half and Ashley Vincent had an effort ruled out for offside. Liam Henderson's deflected effort then flashed wide, but Wycombe also had their chances with goalkeeper Ben Williams denying former Shrimpers man Kevin Betsy and Ben Strevens heading over from Marvin McCoy's cross. Williams tipped over Scott Rendell's effort early in the second half, while Chairboys keeper Nikki Bull denied both David Mooney and substitute Steven Gillespie. But Wycombe broke the deadlock with 15 minutes to go when Matt McClure's pass broke the Colchester offside trap and Betsy coolly touched the ball past Williams, before tapping into the empty net. And Scott Davies sealed the Chairboys' win seven minutes remaining after Williams had saved Strevens' close-range effort.
