Vernon keen on U's extension

Us boss Lambert is expected to overhaul his squad during the summer, and allowed Vernon to join Northampton on loan towards the end of the campaign. But the striker has another year left on his contract at the Community Stadium and has no intention of moving on. "I'm still under contract at Colchester for next season, and as far as I am concerned, that's my next year all sorted out," he told the East Anglian Daily Times. "If things change in the mean-time, so be it. But I will be trying to cement my position in the team for next season, when hopefully we can get off to a better start. "Like everyone else, I have had a chat with the manager. That will remain confidential between ourselves, but I'm now doing weights with the rest of the lads, three days a week, because we are still training."
