U's midfielder pens new contract

The 29-year-old joined the U's from Charlton in 2001 and has gone on to become the club's longest-serving player, making over 350 appearances.[LNB]Izzet's new deal will take him through to the summer of 2012, and manager Aidy Boothroyd believes it shows the club is heading in the right direction.[LNB]"There is always a danger with contracts and that they might run out, but I have said to the lads 'where else would you rather be at the moment?'" Boothroyd told the club's official website.[LNB]"I haven't come here just to talk about good times in the Layer Road era, I've come to get us into the Championship and beyond that.[LNB]"It's a journey we are all on and so far we're at the very beginning."[LNB][LNB]
