Kayodi Odejayi scored the only goal as Colchester edged a pre-season friendly win 1-0 against Chelmsford.
The Us created a hatful of chances but had to make do with Odejayi's second-half header to secure them victory before they take on Aldershot in their final friendly on Saturday.
Odejayi latched on to Ashley Vincent's cross in the 52nd minute to plant a firm header into the bottom corner.
