Tranmere ended a run of six successive League One defeats to ease the pressure on under-fire manager John Barnes.John Welsh netted the opener for the home side, making the most of a rebound after Colchester goalkeeper Ben Williams blocked Marlon Broomes' shot. The lead lasted just two minutes, with John O'Toole tucking home Kayode Odejayi's cross. Tranmere thought they had won it in the 89th minute but Kitson Bain's strike was ruled out for offside. Colchester United manager Aidy Boothroyd told BBC Essex: "I didn't think we played well today at all, I thought we were slow to get started. "I thought we were maybe a little complacent coming here and perhaps we thought we were going to walk away with it. "It's a little wake-up call for us, because you have to compete and fight and earn the right to get the ball down and play."
