Spireites swoop in to sign Perkins
The 27-year-old is set to spend an initial month at Saltergate subject to the necessary paperwork being completed and could feature for his new club in Saturday's clash with Accrington.
Perkins has found first-team opportunities difficult to come by at Colchester this season and handed in a transfer request at the end of August.
Spireites boss Sheridan told the club's official website: "David's a player I was hoping was available. He's a pleasing addition to our side and he wants to come and that's important."
Perkins added: "I didn't move to Colchester to sit on the bench. I want to play as many games as I can."
