Goals from Ched Evans, Chris Porter and Stephen Quinn gave Sheffield United a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Colchester.

Evans was quick off the mark, scoring from close-range in the third minute when he was left unmarked following a corner.

After being left exposed again following another defensive lapse, Colchester keeper Mark Cousins was beaten by Porter's 12th-minute chip.

Colchester's Anthony Wordsworth twice went close in the first-half, putting a free-kick just over and then seeing his low shot turned wide by Steve Simonsen.

Simonsen also kept out Andrew Bond, who was through on goal, but it was the Colchester goal which was most under threat. A header from Evans came back off the bar while Porter and Quinn had efforts which went close before the interval.

The woodwork twice came to Colchester's rescue in the second half, from Porter and Matt Lowton, before Quinn wrapped up the win after 71 minutes following Evans' lay-off.
