Ruthless Colchester please Lambert
A Mark Yeates free-kick and Dean Beckwith's own goal proved to be enough for Colchester and Lambert was pleased with their display.
"It was a job well done," he said. "We knew Hereford would be fighting for their lives but we stopped that," said Lambert.
"We came here to win after our defeat by Brighton on Monday and we have done that."
Lambert also backed Hereford to bounce back next season, adding: "I know what it is like and I am sure they will regroup and have another go next season."
