Mooney on song in Us win

Colchester went through to the second round of the Carling Cup with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Hereford at Edgar Street. Two strikes from on-loan Reading striker David Mooney in the space of three minutes just before the break set up their win. Mooney lashed a volley past goalkeeper Adam Bartlett into the roof of the net from eight yards in the 40th minute. The 21-year-old striker struck again two minutes before the interval when he turned a low cross from Ian Henderson into the net from close range. Both goals were against the run of play as Matthew Manset, Stuart Fleetwood and Joe Colbeck were all denied by goalkeeper Mark Cousins. But Henderson clinched Colchester's victory in the 65th minute when he curled an 18-yard shot into the roof of the net.
