Lambert: We never got going

The U's boss made four changes from the side that started the League One season with an emphatic 7-1 win at Norwich three days earlier. A second-minute goal from Romanian Adrian Patulea sent Orient on their way and JJ Melligan doubled the Londoners' lead just after the hour mark. Simon Hackney blasted in a free-kick in the final minute of stoppage time but it was too little too late. "We were poor and we did not deserve to go through. We made changes but we shouldn't have been as bad as we were," said Lambert. "People were still talking about the Norwich game before this game but I said afterwards that that game has gone. We lost a bad goal early on and we were chasing the game for the next 89 minutes to get it back." Kevin Lisbie and Platt played their second game together in attack, following Lisbie's return on a season-long loan from Ipswich. Lambert added: "They looked really sharp together again but they didn't really get the back-up though and we never really got going as a team all night."
