Hackney to bide time

Colchester winger Simon Hackney is edging closer to a return to action but insists he will not rush his comeback. The 26-year-old is yet to figure for the U's this season and has missed a large chunk of action due to a back injury picked up in training. But the former Carlisle united man recently had an injection to reduce inflammation in the ligament and is hoping to be back within weeks. He told the Gazette: "The injury is gradually progressing slowly but I have to take it one step at a time. "I had a steroid injection last week and that usually takes about a week to settle down but that's only an estimate. I've been so frustrated with it. "I desperately want to train with the lads and be involved again in the first team but I've come back too early before in the past and I don't want the same thing to happen again."
