The 24-year-old has struggled with injuries since joining the U's for a club-record £400,000 from Cheltenham last summer and suffered another hamstring problem during pre-season. But he got his first match action under his belt when he came on for the final half an hour of the second string's goalless draw with Ipswich, to the delight of new manager Adrian Boothroyd. "With a bit more fitness he could have scored three goals," said Boothroyd. "We will get him to build on that display and get him on a programme that gets him fit and keeps him fit."
