Owen Garvan and Darren Ambrose hoping for Colchester opportunity

Colchester caretaker manager Wayne Brown will be hoping to find a winning formula and end a run of five straight Sky Bet League One defeats at home to fellow strugglers Barnsley.

The U's battled to a dramatic 3-2 FA Cup win over non-league Altrincham with a last-minute goal from midfielder Callum Harriott.

Tom Lapslie was also on target last week and is hoping to retain a more attacking role, while full-back Richard Brindley has returned to the side following a knee injury.

Midfielders Owen Garvan and Darren Ambrose could both come back into contention should Brown opt to freshen up the squad again. Defender Alex Wynter is hoping to be available over Christmas following three months out with a heel problem.

Barnsley boss Lee Johnson could name an unchanged side from the one that beat Wigan in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy last weekend.

On-loan Burnley defender Kevin Long sits out the final game of his three-match ban, meaning Lewin Nyatanga should continue to partner Alfie Mawson in central defence.

Ivan Toney and Sam Winnall are set to link up in attack once again, with Marley Watkins and Adam Hammill providing support from out wide.

But Lloyd Isgrove is waiting in the wings if Johnson does decide to make changes, while Ryan Williams is pushing for a first start since September.
