Reading striker David Mooney has agreed to join Colchester United in a six-month loan deal. The 25-year-old arrived at the Madejski stadium in 2008 and has made four appearances, all in the League Cup. [LNB]U's boss John Ward told BBC Essex: "David's a player I know well. I tried to sign him from Cork City when I was at Carlisle. [LNB]"But Reading gazumped me and he went there. He's a striker in the mould of Steven Gillespie." [LNB]He added: "He's been out on loan at Charlton and Norwich recently so has a good pedigree. [LNB]"He's with us for six months and will be able to play in the cups as well so I think it's a really good addition to our squad." [LNB]Mooney has had a series of short-term moves since joining Reading from Irish club Cork City. [LNB]He played twice for Stockport in January 2009 and two months later scored three goals in nine games for Norwich City. [LNB]Charlton loaned the Irishman for most of last season and he went on to score six goals in 31 games.
