Middlesbrough are holding talks with Colchester winger Mark Yeates after the clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.The former Republic of Ireland Under-21 man, 24, has scored 21 goals in 81 games for the U's following his move from Spurs two years ago. Boro boss Gareth Southgate told the club website: "I want players who have played in the Championship and who have a hunger to play in the Premier League. "We want a mixture of hunger, energy and quality." He added: "We feel we are close to being able to do some sort of a deal. Hopefully something might happen over the next few days." U's manager Paul Lambert added: "I'd like to hold on to Mark. He's an exciting player, but in the end money will decide what happens. "He would definitely leave a hole. You never like to see your best players leave." The Dubliner had loan spells at Brighton, Swindon, Colchester, Hull and Leicester from Spurs between 2003 and 2007.
