James O'Connor secures Walsall a remarkable 4-4 draw at Colchester

James O'Connor's stoppage-time equaliser secured Walsall a thrilling 4-4 draw with Colchester following a remarkable encounter.

Walsall took an 11th-minute lead through Romaine Sawyers, who fired low into the far corner from Anthony Forde's pass.

It was 2-0 on the half-hour mark when Milan Lalkovic seized on Adam Chambers' pass and fired a deflected shot past the helpless Jamie Jones.

George Moncur reduced the deficit for Colchester three minutes after the break with a curled effort from the edge of the area from Darren Ambrose's pass.

And Colchester equalised three minutes later when Marvin Sordell slotted in Ambrose's low cross, following Owen Garvan's pass.

Evans restored Walsall's lead five minutes later when he converted Adam Chambers' cut-back, but Garvan's superb 25-yard half-volley made it 3-3 after a corner had only been partially cleared.

Ambrose tapped in Callum Harriott's low cross with 11 minutes remaining for 4-3, but O'Connor dramatically levelled after meeting a pass from Kieron Morris, who hit the bar late on as a thrilling game finished all square.
