Lowe on a high for Crewe as he snatches unlikely win

Crewe battled back from two goals down to snatch a stunning 3-2 victory at Colchester.

Substitute Ryan Lowe, making his second debut for the club, grabbed their winner in the third minute of time added on, chipping U's goalkeeper Jamie Jones from 20 yards.

Hosts Colchester, having suffered three straight defeats and six losses in their last eight matches, looked to be on course for a timely victory thanks to goals either side of half-time from Callum Harriott and George Moncur.

But the battling Railwaymen gave themselves hope through Ryan Colclough and Marcus Haber then came up trumps with a dramatic leveller 11 minutes from time.

Lowe gave his struggling side a precious victory in the closing seconds.

Colchester opened the scoring after 40 minutes thanks to a wonderful goal from Harriott. The winger cut in from the right and let fly with an unstoppable long-range effort that went in via the underside of the crossbar.

The U's second then came right at the start of the second half. A corner caused chaos in the Crewe box and when Tom Eastman's shot was blocked on the line by Billy Bingham, Moncur pounced to make it 2-0.

Crewe's comeback started shortly afterwards, ensuring a lively second half.

Colclough volleyed home from 10 yards after Oliver Turton's cross was knocked into his path by Haber.

And Crewe made it all square when Colclough fed substitute Lowe and his pull-back from the right was turned in by Haber.

That paved the way for Lowe's late heroics - much to the delight of the Crewe faithful.
