George Elokobi secures late draw for Colchester against Scunthorpe

George Elokobi's late equaliser helped Colchester recover a two-goal deficit to salvage a 2-2 draw with visitors Scunthorpe.

Scunthorpe made a great start after taking a seventh-minute lead through Kevin van Veen, whose 25-yard free-kick flew into the bottom corner.

And things got even better for the visitors 10 minutes later when Paddy Madden raced on to Scott Laird's fine pass in behind Colchester's defence and composed himself before slotting low inside the near post.

Madden's first-time volley sailed just wide before the U's reduced the deficit 10 minutes before the break through George Moncur, who slotted in from 10 yards after Gavin Massey had latched on to Tom Eastman's pass and appeared to be felled by Charlie Goode in the area.

Colchester almost equalised just before half-time when keeper Joe Anyon scrambled away Joe Edwards' far-post effort, while Massey went close with a long-range effort early in the second half.

However, the hosts eventually levelled with nine minutes remaining following Elokobi's downward header from Callum Harriott's corner.
