Colchester 2-0 Hartlepool

Two penalties from Kevin Lisbie saw Aidy Boothroyd secure his first win as Colchester boss. The striker blazed his first spot-kick over the bar on 39 minutes after Kayode Odejayi was brought down in the box. But Lisbie made no mistake five minutes later as Odejayi was fouled inside the box, this time by Gary Liddle. And the ex-Charlton forward was on target again a minute into the second half when Liddle was adjudged to have handled a long John White throw-in. Colchester United manager Aidy Boothroyd told BBC Essex: "We caused them a few problems with our crosses into the box, but on another day we could have been one-nil down, so that's something we have to look at. "We always knew Hartlepool would be a threat on the counter-attack and it was far from comfortable. "I thought that was a difficult game, but we made it a little bit more difficult than it should have been at times."
