Boss hails defender White

Colchester boss Aidy Boothroyd has praised defender John White for upping his game in the face of competition for his place at the Community Stadium. Boothroyd recently brought in Christian Ribeiro on loan but an injury to the Bristol City man has seen White regain his spot at right-back, from where he produced a fine display in Monday's 2-0 Essex derby win over Southend. "I see full-backs as the modern-day playmakers. At our club we have strong, athletic full-backs who are good defenders," said Boothroyd. "To get them to that next level they need to get on the ball and be composed, with people offering them some movement to pass to. "I have been thrilled to see John do that recently and he did that very well against Southend. "If bringing Christian into the club has moved John to another level then that's great for me. John is a fantastic servant to the club and he is proving he can step up and do more than a job for us."
