Ex-England coach Steve McClaren and Frenchman Claude Puel are both in the running to take over as manager of Belgium side Club Brugge, according to reports here on Friday.

Former Wolfsburg, FC Twente and Middlesbrough boss McClaren resigned last month as Nottingham Forest manager after just 10 games in charge of the struggling English Championship side.

Brugge's general manager Vincent Mannaert confirmed McClaren was on the list after the former England boss attended the side's 2-2 draw at Birmingham in the Europa League on Thursday night.

According to La Derniere Heure and SporzaHe website, both McClaren and former Lyon boss Puel have met with club management with a view to taking over from Dutchman Adrie Koster who was sacked by Brugge last weekend.

"No coach is always successful. To appreciate his value we have to take his entire career into consideration," said Mannaert regarding 50-year-old McClaren.

Brugge are fourth in the Belgium top flight, four points behind leaders Anderlecht after 12 matches. The team recruited twelve new players during the summer.

Brugge, Birmingham and Braga are all on seven points with two games remaining in Group H of the Europa League.

Puel, 50, was sacked by Lyon last June after three years without a trophy. He previously coached French clubs Lille and Monaco.
