Euro League Qualifiers: Club Bruges net three against Brondby

01 August 2014 09:46

Club Bruges bagged a surprisingly easy win against Brondby yesterday, beating the Danes 3-0.

Brondby started the game with good intentions, going forward eagerly. But, as they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and Brondby soon felt the heat as Bruges defender Oscar Duarte headed in a cross from Lestienne at the 15-minute mark.

The home team smelled blood, and took control of the match. Castillo, who had already scored on the opening day, scored the 2-0, after having been denied twice by Brondby’s keeper. Lestienne kept a clear view, and set up the Chilean’s second of the season. 2-0 was the score at the break.

Bruges maintained control throughout the second half, even adding another one to the tally in the 65th minute. Vazquez beat his man, cut inside from the left and curled it in beautifully. In the closing stages, Lestienne had the opportunity to be the absolute star of the game, but failed to finish.

The match ended, and Bruges have an almost guaranteed spot in the final qualification round. Brondby on the other hand might need a miracle to turn the tables around. We’ll just have to wait and see what next week brings.
