Chievo's Bostjan Cesar has revealed that Internazionale's Samuel Eto'o has apologised to him personally for headbutting the defender last weekend.
Eto'o has been handed a three-match ban for his indiscretion and released a statement saying sorry for his actions, which did not mention Cesar.
However, the Flying Donkeys man has confirmed that Eto'o phoned him in person to apologise, telling the Gazzetta dello Sport: "He phoned me and said he really regretted what he'd done.
"He apologised to me and my family. The head-butt was just a result of his tension. I immediately accepted. You can tell a real champion from that behaviour.
"Clearly in the moment of the match you're in a sort of trance and these things can happen, but understanding you made a mistake shows your intelligence. A personal apology is a sign of a real professional."
