Spireites urge fans to stay off pitch
Chesterfield have urged supporters to stay off the pitch when Gillingham visit the b2net Stadium for the final game of the season. The long-time leaders will clinch the League Two title should they avoid defeat on Saturday. The last home match against Bury was marred by pitch invasions, with one fan subsequently arrested for punching visiting goalkeeper Cameron Belford.Chesterfield are keen to avoid a repeat of such scenes and extra stewards will be present to help ensure events run smoothly."The club just wants everyone to be able to celebrate a fantastic season," said stadium director Phillip Taylor. "We don't want the exuberance of the day to lead to any incursion onto the pitch and an increased risk of disorder, which would spoil the day and the club's good name."With the eyes of the football authorities and the media on us the only images we want to portray is that of a friendly, successful football club whose fans can celebrate in a responsible manner."
