Spireites release seven

Chesterfield manager Lee Richardson has released seven players following the club's relegation from League One.

Richardson, who was handed the job on a permanent basis last month, has told Nicky Rizzo, Reuben Wiggins-Thomas, Alex Bailey, Kyle Critchell, Sebastien Grimaldi, Reuben Hazell and Shane Nicholson that their contracts will not be renewed.

The Spireites boss has also confirmed he is yet to make decisions on the futures of striker Colin Larkin and midfielder Paul Hall.

"It is one of the hardest things to have to do as a manager and it is not pleasant," he told the club's official website.

"But I feel it needs to be done if Chesterfield are to move forward and have every chance of bouncing straight back up again next season."
