Spireites open striker talks
08 Nov 2008 - 10:06:34
Chesterfield have opened negotiations over a new contract with highly-rated striker Jamie Ward.
The club's ten-goal top-scorer is out of contract next summer and has already been linked with several higher division sides.
"We are in discussion with with Jamie about a new contract. That's all we can really say at the moment," manager Lee Richardson told BBC Radio Sheffield.
However, Richardson is remaining realistic about the possibility of the player leaving Saltergate.
"At every level of football everybody has their price," he conceded.
"If Jamie doesn't want to sign the contract, which will be a good one for us, then he has that right and we can't force him to.
"The only thing that we will rest assured on is that, if he decides to move on, then whoever takes him will have to pay compensation because he is under 24."
