Chesterfield have snapped up winger Michael Barnes on loan from Manchester United.

The 19-year-old wideman has joined the Spireites until the end of the season and could make his debut against Grimsby Town on Saturday.

"He is an exciting prospect and we are delighted Sir Alex Ferguson has allowed him to join us," manager Lee Richardson told the club's official website.

Meanwhile, Stoke City striker Adam Rooney has extended his loan stay at Saltergate until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old has scored six times in 20 appearances for the League Two club.
