Spireites land loan defender

Chesterfield have signed Derby County defender James Meredith on a month's loan.

Meredith, 18, has yet to make a first team appearance for the Rams after signing professional terms last summer and was loaned out to Conference side Cambridge United earlier in the campaign.

"He is a natural left footer so brings crucial competition into the squad," Chesterfield boss Roy McFarland told the club's official website.

"He has been training with us and we like what we see."
