Chesterfield have been given the green light to seek planning approval for a new 10,000-seater stadium.
Wilson Bowden, who own the site in the Whittington Moor area of Chesterfield where the stadium is to be created, will complete necessary groundworks by the end of the May and plans for the new ground will be submitted to the local council in June.
If everything goes to plan the Spireites could move into their new home by October 2008.
"I have supported Chesterfield all my life and this is the furthest we have ever got with plans for the future," admitted chairman Barrie Hubbard.
"After a lot of hard work, only a few hurdles now remain before we can move forward to fulfil our dreams of lifting this football club and making it a real asset for the town."
