Winless Macclesfield had a sting in the tail for unbeaten Chesterfield as they recorded only their second point of the season in a 1-1 draw at the Moss Rose. It had seemed that Chesterfield would leave with the points after Craig Davies outmuscled the home defence to drill his side ahead from eight yards after 66 minutes. They nearly added a second two minutes later when former home favourite Danny Whitaker saw his powerful 20-yard drive tipped wide by the fingers of Jose Veiga. But Macclesfield responded out of the blue in the 74th minute when overlapping left-back Carl Tremarco produced a pinpoint low cross for livewire striker Emile Sinclair to clip home from eight yards. Neither side could muster a clear-cut chance in a frantic last 15 minutes with Chesterfield frustrated by Macc's discipline in defence. The home side had enjoyed the better of the first half with lone striker Tyrone Barnett seeing a diving header well saved by Tommy Lee in the 23rd minute and then sending a dipping 25-yard volley inches over the bar just before the break.
