Smalley keen on Chesterfield deal

Chesterfield's on-loan striker Deane Smalley is in talks with the club about a permanent move to the B2 Net Stadium.The Oldham forward has scored four goals in his last five games for the League Two leaders. The 22-year-old joined Chesterfield on a three month loan from the Latics in November last year. [LNB]Manchester-born Smalley, who has made 105 appearances for Oldham, told BBC Radio Sheffield: "If the deal is there to be done I would love to stay." [LNB]He continued: "I've enjoyed playing at Chesterfield. The lads are brilliant, as is the management and the new stadium, and we are doing well in the league." Smalley has also played for Rochdale on loan. [LNB]Chesterfield manager John Sheridan said he had been impressed by Smalley since his move. [LNB]"I've spoken to Oldham and we're going to try and keep him," Sheridan told the Sheffield Star. "I've spoken to him and hopefully we can get something sorted. [LNB]"He's got that pace and a good eye for goal. When he's in a confident mood I know what he can do, I saw that when I had him at Oldham. He's getting a few games and he's getting a few goals. [LNB]"You can see he's getting his fitness back after one or two injuries and I'm really pleased with the way he's enjoying himself with us."
