Sheridan: We were lucky

Chesterfield manager John Sheridan acknowledged his side were rather fortunate to pick up a 2-1 win over Southend. Scott Boden's last-gasp strike gave the Spireites the win though it was a sucker-punch for Southend, who had dominated large periods of the second half. Danny Whitaker had put Chesterfield in front in the 27th minute with a penalty after Jack Lester was fouled, though Anthony Grant looked to have secured a point for the Shrimpers 10 minutes later. Sheridan said: "We were fortunate to win the game but I'll take the three points. The pleasing thing is that we went right to the end. "Southend have good players in their side who are experienced and have been around. I knew it would be a very tough game. "We're quite exciting to watch and we attack when we're at home so teams will try to make it difficult for us. I thought Southend frustrated us at times and we never really got going. That's full credit to them."
