Preston frustrated by Spireites

Graham Westley left the pitch to a chorus of boos after his Preston side saw their winless run extended to four games in a goalless draw with lowly Chesterfield.

Andy Procter and Danny Mayor wasted Preston's best chances before Chesterfield midfielder Mark Allott's shot was blocked. And it was the relegation-threatened Spireites who went closest to stealing the points when former North End defender Neal Trotman's injury-time header rattled the bar.

Jordan Bowery's looping volley from distance went close to breaking the deadlock for the visitors after 22 minutes before Procter miscued from the edge of the box.

Preston controlled possession after the break but showed few signs of creating an opener, much to the audible displeasure of the home fans.

Danny Mayor's effort from 15 yards was just inches away from giving Preston the lead, before Chesterfield went close when Allott's goalbound shot was deflected clear.

And in injury time Trotman's fierce header had Thorsten Stuckmann beaten but not the bar as Preston held on for a draw.
