Niven given positive prognosis

Chesterfield midfielder Derek Niven could be back in training as early as next month after undergoing treatment for testicular cancer. The 24-year-old Scotsman is set to undergo a round of chemotherapy as a precaution, with a recent scan having shown that the cancer had not spread elsewhere. A delighted Spireites boss, Lee Richardson, told the club's official website: "It's good news. Derek has the most treatable form of the cancer and we hope he can start training again in January.' "Everyone at the club is looking forward to having Derek back in action again, with every hope that this chapter in his football career can be put well and truly behind him." Niven has been at Saltergate since December 2003, having joined the club from Bolton Wanderers.
