Mattis brace in cup success

Chesterfield recovered from two goals down to claim a 3-2 win at Matlock Town. On-trial trio Shane Redmond, Sean Timmons and Jack Hunt were all named in the Spireites starting line-up but it was former Chesterfield man Ben Algar who opened the scoring for the hosts after 10 minutes. It got worse for Chesterfield when James Knowles headed home on the stroke of half-time. But Spireites boss John Sheridan rung the changes at half-time to devastating effect. Substitute Dwayne Mattis pulled a goal back with a fierce drive from the edge of the box before doubling his tally with another powerful striker. Danny Whitaker completed a fine comeback with a rasping shot from outside of the box after 59 minutes before Mark Allott picked up the Banners Jones Cup after the match as the Spireites picked up their first piece of silverware of the new season.
