Chesterfield midfielder Peter Leven has rejected the offer of a new contract at Saltergate, but Spireites boss Lee Richardson has not ruled out the possibility of the 24-year-old still being with the club next term.
The former Rangers trainee was a regular in Chesterfield's first team in the season just ended, scoring five goals in 44 appearances for the club following his transfer from Kilmarnock last summer.
Richardson told the club's official website: "Peter Leven's made his intentions clear that he hopes a club at a higher level will come in for him.
"We've made him an excellent offer but respect his desire to move on if he so wishes.
"We haven't closed the door entirely on the matter but we have to move on as well with our plans for next season."
Chesterfield turned down a £100,000 offer from Brighton for Leven during the January transfer window.
The club have also made new contract offers to Phil Picken and Janos Kovacs.
