Keeper Carson joins Spireites

Chesterfield have snapped up Northern Ireland Under-21 international goalkeeper Trevor Carson on loan from Sunderland.

The 20-year-old has yet to break into the first team at the Premier League club, but will spend the season on loan at Saltergate.

Carson, who has been capped at under-17 and under-21 level for his country, will provide competition for regular number one Tommy Lee.

"He's a goalkeeper that has been on our radar all summer," said manager Lee Richardson.

"He comes with a good reputation and he'll put Tommy Lee under pressure."
