Chesterfield have released midfielder Gareth Davies from his contract at Saltergate by mutual consent.
Davies, who was one of the longest serving players at the club, has only made one first-team appearance this season, coming against Wrexham earlier this month on New Year's Day.
The 24-year-old, who can play at either full-back or in midfield, has made a total of 132 appearances for the Spireites after signing professional terms in May 2002.
Davies also had a short loan spell earlier this season with Stalybridge Celtic, where he made five appearances for the Lancashire club.
Chesterfield boss Lee Richardson told the club's official website: "We need to shake things up a bit in the squad and as Gareth is not currently in line for a regular first-team place.
"I wanted to give him the opportunity in good time to play football elsewhere.
"He leaves us with our very best wishes for the future and our thanks for all his efforts while he has been with us."
