Davies may drop to bench

Chesterfield`s Burton-born striker Craig Davies could see his place in the side come under threat against his hometown club. The 15-goal forward has not scored since New Year`s Day. Deane Smalley has taken over the mantle of main scorer and is likely play up front rather than on the wing where he began against Aldershot last weekend. Whether Davies or veteran Jack Lester, often rested for away games, is alongside Smalley is the big decision for manager John Sheridan. Sheridan could revert to the 4-3-3 formation that worked well at Southend last month, when Smalley was supported by Drew Talbot and Danny Whitaker while Dwayne Mattis played in midfield rather than at centre-half. Javan Vidal's spot at right-back could also come under pressure. Former Rotherham loanee Dean Holden is far more experienced than the Manchester City youngster and could be thrown in for his debut.
