Chesterfield have emerged as the surprise winners of the race to sign veteran midfielder Darren Currie.
Currie, 33, had been expected to rejoin former club Brighton and Hove Albion after leaving Luton Town following the end of his contract.
But the former West Ham United trainee has now agreed a three-year contract at Saltergate and left Albion boss Micky Adams furious with his decision to snub a return to the south coast club.
"He used us as a tool simply to get a better deal for himself at Chesterfield, but while I am disappointed, I'm not that surprised," he said.
Meanwhile, Chesterfield manager Lee Richardson added: "I am delighted that Darren has agreed to join us."
